As the release date for Prisoner of Azkaban approaches, Harry Potter fans all over the world are making plans to get together to see the film.

And since there's a huge number of Harry Potter fans in and around the New York area, we thought, why not have a massive film-going event on the afternoon of June 5 (the day after the US release) at the LOEWS IMAX on the Upper West Side in Manhattan?

The theater's Group Sales Office has given us a chance to purchase discounted tickets as a block, so we can all sit together and watch the film on the larger-than-life IMAX screen, and then we can all adjourn together to for nibbles and post-film analysis somewhere in the neighborhood (location to be announced - we're talking with a Columbus Square bookstore right now).

At this point, we don't have an exact start-time for the film, but the theater tells us it'll start between three p.m. and four-thirty p.m., with the afterparty running from approximately seven-thirty until nine o'clock.

Everyone is welcome, but we ask that kids under fifteen attend with a parent or guardian.

Since we have to buy the tickets ahead of time to get the seats blocked, and to get the discount, ticket orders will be facilitated by FictionAlley.

You can pay with PayPal using the page here until May 31 (or until tickets sell out) or you can send a money order or a check (postmarked by May 15 or until we announce that tickets have sold out) to the address on that page.

If you have any questions, feel free to post here! And if you're sending a check or money order, we'd appreciate it if you'd post here telling us to look for it (but you're not required to do so).

Manhattan... *shiver* I'd think about going, if I didn't loathe NYC so much, it sounds really neat.

IMAX in Georgia

The IMAX at Mall of Georgia will be showing POA. It probably has party rooms. If you are interested in discussing, please visit my live journal. I think everyone can comment there. If not, send me an email, siriuskase@earthlink.net.

Oh, I'd so love to come (live on E. side), though I'm a little hesitant as I'm not really involved so much with fandom. Does everyone else planning to go already know each other? Will it be totally weird if a random teenager shows up?

Some people know some other people but there's already at least 20 people who've rsvp-ed that I don't know at all. And what better way to link up with fandom?

Yes, btw, I know that other teens will be there.

Oooh, New Yorker and fandom lurker... I've never met anyone in person before, but I'd love to see the movie on IMAX. It wouldn't be weird to show up randomly with a boyfriend in tow, would it? *suddenly shy*

Don't worry about not knowing anyone. I don't know anyone and I am coming with my girlfriend, so I am sure there are going to be a lot of fans there that are new to each other. We are getting together to see what is going to be a great movie. I am sure there are going to be all ages as well, I'm 26...and it was already mentioned that there are some teens going... So come on down! I will see everyone there!

You're in Miami? Wheee, so am I! And yes, it's terrible about closing the Sunset! What on earth are they going to put in there? I loved that theater, but the projecter was *always* breaking and shows were always delayed, which was a bit annoying.

I was just wondering how the tickets will be distributed. Are they going to be mailed or Do we pick them up?

Re: Tickets For PoA Movie

Heidi is reporting over on TLC that the tickets will be distributed in the 90 minutes or so prior to the movie. There will be more announcements about what the distributers will be wearing, exact time, etc. This is per Heidi. Link here: http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/MTarchives/week_2004_04_25.html#004417

Hi...

I've been a fandom lurker forever, but I live in Queens and I know that there's a huge fan base in NY and I've always wanted to get to know some of it. :) This is really a great idea and I'm definately going.

*looking for someone to chat with*

I comment on The Leaky Cauldron sometimes, but I don't think I'm very know, hehe. I use the name Danni on there. So I'm looking for someone there so I won't be standing there all awkward(sp?) when the day comes. I'm 16 and a girl, despite what some come to believe from my name and username *grumble*, hehe.

I accidently asked my mom to come with me since I don't know anyone, and now it may be turning into a family trip (me, my mom, dad, and bro)! Save me! My family likes HP, but I highly doubt they like it enough to stick around for the thing afterwards, so either way I'd need someone to chill with then.

When my dad comes home, we're gonna discuss it, but at this point it's pretty much 95% yes that we're going.

So...?

Yay! HP fangirls unite!

This is such a cool idea! Even though I'm a big fandom lurker, I can't wait to go.

*crosses fingers* I hope I won't be the oldest one there, anyone else going that's 21 and over? I'm 23. I'll be in Queens that week. My bf's sister wants to go so I guess I won't be the only one dragging family along.

Yay for the fangirls.

Oldest? HA, no. I'm in my 30s and I know a number of late-20s and 30somethings who are going to be there. And a few in their 40s, too!

The exact time hasn't been announced yet. The post on TLC states the movie will probably start sometime between three pm and four-thirty pm, with the tickets distributed in the 90 minutes prior to the movie start.

Just To Be Clear...

The tickets will not mailed? If we paid by PenPal, do we just bring the e-mailed confirmation and present it to get the ticket?

Lauryn, who is in her late 20s and traveling from the South--just to watch PoA with fellow obsessive fans.

Re: Just To Be Clear...

Tickets will not be mailed. The theater can't print them out far enough in advance for us to mail them without fedexing them.

You can bring a printout of the paypal confirmation, or a photo id with the same name as the PayPal account that purchased the tickets.

question about fees

I don't have a PayPal account, I'd like to send a personal check. Who should I make the check out to?

Also, do I still have to pay the Paypal processing fee?

Thanks, and hope to see you there!

Can't Wait!

Hi Heidi,
I'm also an adult HP fan (33) and am looking forward to coming down with my husband and 2 daughters. I just got done reading POA to my girls and they loved it (how couldn't they?!)!! We live in Saratoga, NY and have never been to an IMAX theater before. This sounds like a blast!! We are checking to see if any of our family and friends want to make this a day trip and caravan on down. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you! We will be sending a check soon. Would you like us to make it out to The Leaky Cauldron?

Re: Can't Wait!

You can make the check out to LEAKY, INC (but if you've already sent it made out to TLC, it's fine) - and it has to be postmarked by May 18 so we get it in time.

You're going to love the IMAX screen - it's amazing!.

Just a few questions...

I don't have a PayPal account, so where would I be sending my cheque or money order to? Also, who am I making it out to? And I'm sure it's been asked but when is the deadline for cheques and money orders? And how much is one ticket? I couldn't seem to find that information either.

I've been looking everywhere for any hint that the local IMAX here would be showing it but I see nothing, so I doubt they are now. It's not so bad, NYC is only an 8 hour drive (approx.) from here.

(I'm from Ottawa so I can make the short trek to NYC if I get the car. Otherwise I'll have to dole out extra $$ to take the train).
